Showcase Sunday #5

Showcase Sunday is a weekly meme hosted by Books, Biscuits, and Tea! This is where each Sunday, we can "showcase" what we've gotten in the way of books; in the mail, at the bookstore, the library, or as a gift!

As I've been doing a lot of Christmas shopping, I've only allowed myself to buy 1 physical book this past month, as she's one of my favorite Romance authors and I've been waiting for this book for more than a year. As for e-books, I guess you could say they are my weakness lately...

Books Bought:

The Dacians series is a sort of spin off of her Immortals After Dark series as they both take place in the same universe. Kresley Cole is seriously the dessert of romance novels, in my opinion. I save her books for last because the longer I wait to read them, the sooner her next book will be out!

Books Traded:

Krista and Becca at Nawanda Files YA Book Review Blog started a new blog/website called YA Book Exchange, where book bloggers are welcome to post YA books they own and are willing to trade for something on their wish list. There are ARC's, hardcovers, and paperbacks to choose from, even some that aren't published yet! I was fortunate enough to trade a book for this ARC copy of Thumped (which has since been published).

Thank you, Vivien!

E-books Bought:

Interesting concept - very far from what I expect would actually happen in reality, but it was a fun read and had a lot of steamy scenes. Typical head strong female falls for indifferent (or is he?) male who fight until the very end and struggle to keep their hands off each other (barely) who make up every excuse not to be together and then end up together. For a few hours distraction, it was worth the few dollars it cost!

Opal was due to be released around December 11th or so, but apparently the publisher decided to release it early for certain types of formats. My copy was downloaded to my kindle at 2am on December 5th, while some who pre-ordered it on Nook and other e-readers have yet to receive theirs.

Prior to this early release, I was browsing websites for Christmas gift ideas and I happened upon a website called Hebel Design. She designs and sells jewelry, some of which is found in popular YA series, such as the Lux series! I had briefly read about her work on another blog and wasn't too interested in what I saw, but when I checked it out this time, I saw her Obsidian wand necklace and I fell in love. I don't normally swoon over jewelry (just books! ha), but I had to have this necklace. OI decided it would be my Christmas gift to myself (not including all the books/e-books I've bought myself...).

About a week ago, Don't Turn Around's book facebook page posted that it was on sale for $2.99 on Amazon Kindle. This was on my TBR list, but I hadn't wanted to buy it as I've got a zillion other books I haven't read, but I couldn't pass up that offer! I'm a few chapters in, and I'm very pleased with this purchase, as so far, there has been action, mystery, deception, computer hacking, Apple products, and more!

I was searching for e-books one random night and I found myself reading review after review about this book. I had already resigned myself to not reading it. I felt like it would just be a waste of money and it was obvious it was a book full of unhealthy relationships, violence, sex, and tattoos. But when I read the sample, I didn't see anything wrong with the story. I wanted to know why people were so enraged in their reviews of this book. I bought the e-book and after about 7 hours, I finished it, I understand what they were all talking about. I posted a brief review on Goodreads here giving it 2 stars, but I've resigned myself not to think too much about it or concern myself with it any more than I did. Surprisingly it was a long book, and I didn't have any objections until about half way through, when it lost most of it's potential as it morphed into just another story about a girl who wanted to change a bad boy who honestly couldn't have cared less.

What bookish things have you received lately? Happy Reading!

  1. Great book haul! I've heard great things about Cole's books. Your summary if Wrong Bed, Right Guy was perfect! I still haven't read Beautiful Disaste r, but I love your thoughts.
    Happy Reading!

  2. Awesome haul! I can't wait to hear what you think of Thumped. I've read Bumped and always been curious about the sequel but I never got into it. I'm glad that YA Book Exchange is working out for you!!! I didn't much care for Beautiful Disaster for the same reasons you did. It's definitely an either you love it or hate it kind of book.

Becca and I have Don't Turn Around. She started it and stopped. Not sure why, but I'm glad it's good for you so far. Awesome, awesome haul. I hope you enjoy all your books :D Happy reading!
