Showcase Sunday #7

Showcase Sunday is a weekly meme hosted by Books, Biscuits, and Tea! This is where each Sunday, we can "showcase" what we've gotten in the way of books; in the mail, at the bookstore, the library, or as a gift!

Yay! I found the time to do a Showcase Sunday this week XD. I really shouldn't be doing these for another 3 months as I have about 60 books sitting on my bookshelf that I have accumulated over the past 6 months and I'm kind of afraid it's going to break under the pressure of all those books... Being a book lover is a not-as-expensive addiction as hard drugs, but it's still costly and takes up a lot of space in your dwelling (ahhh, Under the Never Sky term :).

Warning: I can has bookz syndrome likely to evolve...
Books Bought:

These were all for the Pitch Dark Dark Days tour event I attended in Cambridge, MA last week. I was originally only going to have the authors sign their most recent release, but I caved and bought all the other books in the series because I go to like, 2 book events a lifetime.

Mmmm. I will read anything Showalter writes. Even if it was a recipe. It would probably be a recipe for sexy food. This was on sale at Wal-Mart for $5.99, saving me $2 off the regular price. Wal-Mart rocks. Another reason why? They were open on the Saturday after Storm Nemo (stupid name) and had HEAT and ELECTRICITY. It was magical.

Books Traded:

Thanks to Sierra at Yearning to Read for this trade on YA Book Exchange :)
(If you haven't checked out YA Book Exchange, do it NOW!)

Books Won:

A while back I had taken a 2012 YA Readers Survey on TeenReads.com and I was entered to win a random book out of 450 books donated by publishers. This was the book I received and it was quite a surprise! The cover really is gorgeous, although Krista over at Nawanda Files reviewed it and I'm not sure how much I'll like it. I did enjoy Black Swan, and this is sort of in the same alley. We'll see!

E-Books Bought:

None :) Like I've said before, I can justify buying an e-book while I have tons already downloaded and waiting to be read. This is the one area of books that I feel I can control myself with. Who knows about the future though!

You know the drill... links to Goodreads for more info! :)

Question: Do you prefer to own hardcovers or paperbacks?

Happy Reading!

  1. Awesome haul this week, Sallie! Nobody But Us is a very emotional read. Get your tissues ready! You know my thoughts about Dance of Shadows, lol :) But I'm really excited to see what you think of it. And of course all your lovelies from Pitch Dark tour are so very, very beautiful!! So much greatness in your mail! Happy reading :D

    1. I tried reading Nobody But Us, but COULD NOT get into it. I know it's been getting a lot of great reviews, but the writing did nothing for me and I didn't like either of the characters. :/ At this point, if I don't finish a book, I'm not even worried about it. I have so many others to read. Plus, I was able to trade it with someone on YA book exchange for something else that looked interesting, so it worked out well. :)

      Thanks for stopping by, Krista!

  2. *sniggers* I can has bookz syndrome :D

Oh, Shatter Me and Unravel Me. Those covers are SO pretty! I should really pick up this series - I keep seeing them everywhere. I usually prefer paperbacks mainly because they're not that heavy/large and can be carried more easily (especially if you're always on the go) but I don't mind hardbacks either. I've been buying more second hand books lately and I figured that hardbacks are often in better condition than paperbacks, so I started ordering hardbacks instead. :)

    1. I LOVE the covers for Shatter Me and Unravel Me. They are so elegant and have so much going on you could probably analyze it for a design class!

I agree with buying paperbacks because they're lighter, and cheaper! When I was younger, I wanted to buy as many books as I could with my gift cards/book money that I would try to find the cheapest of all the ones I wanted so I could buy more than if I got the hardcovers which can be quite pricey. It just stinks that it takes soooo long for the paperback version to come out, sometimes almost a year later!

Thanks for stopping by, Vicky! I love being apart of your Showcase Sunday meme. :)
